EMBRYO FREEZING

Замразяване на ембриони

The ability to store embryos is extremely beneficial for our patients. We apply the techniques of vitrification (from the Latin vitreum, "glass"), which give a high percentage of achieved pregnancy, comparable to that of fresh embryos.

Good quality embryos that are not placed in the uterus are suitable for freezing. They can be returned by embryo transfer in the next cycle without the need to undergo the same drug therapy and surgery. Freezing is for a period of six months or a year and can be extended if necessary.

The placement of the thawed embryos is an easy procedure for the patient. The cycle is monitored by ultrasound. After ovulation, the embryos are thawed and placed in the uterus. If the natural cycle is irregular, hormonal medications are used to prepare the uterus.

Thawed embryo transfer has been practiced since 1983, and until now, there is no known evidence of an increased risk of abnormalities in babies born after this procedure.

Whether to freeze the embryos is an important decision for the couple. An informed consent for freezing and storage must be completed accurately and clearly.
